Small businesses has been severely impacted by Covid with lockdowns and more recently through supply chain disruptions, staff and customer shortages and rising costs of doing business.

So we are looking forward to hearing from The Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman, the Hon. Bruce Billson. In this role he acts as an independent advocate for small business owners. The Ombudsman's office has the legislative powers needed to effectively influence our nation's law makers, ensuring that legislation and regulations are put in place to support and assist small business. 


The Ombudsman will speak to the challenges facing the businesspeople he represents and the importance of engagement with all tiers of government to better understand their needs and develop policies to support this vital economic driver and employer, ensuring Australia is the best place to start, grow and transform. 

Bruce Billson, Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman

Bruce commenced his role as Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman (ASBFEO) in March 2021. Bruce brings experience and knowledge to the role of Ombudsman, and an understanding of the issues facing small business, having started his own advisory business in 2016. Bruce's political career spans 30 years, including his role as Cabinet Minister for Small Business from 2013-2015.

Bruce has shown his dedication to small business through being a founding Director of Judo Bank and various board appointments, including the Franchise Council of Australia, Deakin University Business School and Australian Property Institute.

As the ASBFEO, he is an independent advocate for small business owners. Ombudsman's office has the legislative powers needed to effectively influence our nation's law makers, ensuring legislation and regulations are put in place to help small businesses grow.

The ASBFEO office also provides small businesses and family enterprises with assistance should they find themselves involved in a business dispute.

James is a credit risk specialist with extensive knowledge in the areas of credit policy design, decision automation, predictive modelling and machine learning applied to credit risk management and other business applications. He is co-founder of Open Analytics and has previously lead the big-4 bank's credit analytics teams.
